And you thought you were big


This is the star VY Canoris Majoris. and magnified you can see a tiny little dot we know as the sun. (photo courtesy of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sun_and_VY_Canis_Majoris.svg) Now imagine earth next to the sun, then imagine earth to VY canis Majoris. It was first discovered in 1801. It is a high luminosity M-star and is so far said to be 3000 degrees Kelvin, which i think is 3273 degrees celcius, althought the sun is about 5700 degrees Kelvin (because K=C+273)
